"No One Claps For The Low Notes" by The Soiree Band (Jazz/Blues Artist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (PA))

Shake up a dirty martini and throw on "No One Claps For The Low Notes," the second jazz CD from Pittsburgh's The Soiree Band. Now with a larger ensemble of nine horns, this modern big band is certain to get you tapping your foot and feeling the groove. The strong and solid brass section performs with intense precision and is well balanced by the supporting instruments. In addition to the swinging big band arrangements, this album delivers fine vocal expertise from talented singer Christina Cataldo as heard on jazz/soul ballads like "Since I Fell For You" and an original and energetic command on a classic cover of "Gimme Some Lovin." "No One Claps For The Low Notes" is a dynamic album with a tonality that effectively matches the throwback classic styles of the big band era. You will be delighted to hear these fun and tasteful tunes with cool jazz style.

"Exposed" by Joe Ercole (Jazz Artist from Georgia(GA))

Accomplished instrumentalist/composer, Joe Ercole gives an outstanding performance with his recently released album "Exposed." A talented and gifted pianist, with several accolades under his belt, Ercole has performed and written for various musical outlets. Original and inventive to the jazz/funk styles of music, Ercole decided to delve into the Arabic musical influences and takes the listener on a new journey of music. The CD is a testament to Joe's creativity and musicianship. Sweet and soothing, "Oasis" is true to jazz form and offers up a moving solo on guitar. "Hypnotize" is a great example of the Arabic persuasion with vocals singing a melodic chant. "Master Suite" changes from the piano to a stinging jazz organ with infectious funky beats. "Exposed" is an exceptional mixture of jazz/funk with a touch of Arabic bringing listeners to a new and refreshing musical voyage.

"Limpopo" by New World Jazz Project (Jazz Artist from San Francisco, California(CA))

Catch the cool and refreshing jazz feel blended with Latin and soul on "Limpopo" by New World Jazz Project. These creative and invigorating melodies were written through the sounds and textures experienced from travels abroad. This CD prominently features the alluring expressions of the sax tastefully blended with other instruments. The musicianship on the CD is very impressive. Slow and steamy, "You Don't Know What Love Is" is flavored with colorful chord progressions on keys while the drums deliver soft brushes and steady snare hits. Taking the lead on "Fava Beans," the flute carries you away with breathy and melodic phrasing. "Call of the Toucan" is delightfully filled with dreamscape sounds and gives the impression of a toucan actually talking. "Limpopo" will impress all jazz fans and is a disc gracefully balanced with Latin/soul roots.

RadioIndy is pleased to present Gene Hilbert with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Larger Prey"

RadioIndy is pleased to present Gene Hilbert with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Larger Prey"

Seasoned performer Gene Hilbert's latest release, "Larger Prey," is a collection of original music fused with classic rock, jazz, and blues. A one-man show, Hilbert not only is the vocalist and guitarist but also has creatively performed every other instrument. The album's high-quality production is heard in each track, and each track is arranged with excellent distinction between instruments and vocals. Subtle bell sounds and horns complement the razor sharp guitar on "Morning 20." Harmonic guitars highlight the moving piece "March to Baghdad" as it takes on a sound of its own. Vocals are low and clean while the harmonies are perfectly layered on "Talk To Me." Hilbert has taken different musical styles and has compiled a wonderful selection of songs with powerful guitar melodies. "Larger Prey" is a guitar driven album that is well worth hearing, especially for listeners who enjoy Joe Satriani or Santana.

RadioIndy is pleased to present The Phoenix Jazz Project with a GrIndie Award for the CD "When Lights Are Low"

RadioIndy is pleased to present The Phoenix Jazz Project with a GrIndie Award for the CD "When Lights Are Low"

"When Lights Are Low," the latest album by The Phoenix Jazz Project, reaches well beyond its roots of jazz/big band styles. One may consider jazz to be one of the most technically challenging styles of music, but this group has cohesively crafted the art. The chemistry between the musicians is unbelievably tight and consistent. One such example of this bond is the sax quartet interpreting the harmonies through a series of voicings on "I Mean You." Listeners will hear outstanding vocals, as they are polished and demonstrate maturity while never faltering on these complex melodies. The piano gracefully glides across the ivories with a true jazz feel on "Oncallogy," while a smooth swing tempo is performed with soft brushes on the drums and a silky walking bass line. Fans of Count Basie, Cannonball Adderley, or modern big band sounds will really enjoy The Phoenix Jazz Project's refreshing jazz album "When Lights Are Low."
